Student employees will work 10 office hours per week (to fall within the hours of 8 a.m. – 5 p.m. Monday – Friday) with additional hours working at events as needed; to possibly include early morning, evening hours, and weekends.

Minimum Qualifications

All student applicants must meet the following minimum qualifications for employment with University Programs:

  • Must be enrolled and continuing as a full-time student at The University of Alabama for the 2022-2023 academic year
  • Must be in good academic standing, and have and maintain a minimum 2.80 cumulative GPA
  • Must be available to work between 10-20 hours per week
  • Must be available to work events on early mornings, nights, and weekends and be able to lift up to 20+ lbs

Job Descriptions

Outreach Team

Brand Ambassadors are members of the University Programs Outreach Team who serve as representatives to bridge the gap between students and University Programs to share about opportunities for engagement, upcoming events, and resources. (Please note – Graphic design experience is not required to serve as a brand ambassador.)

Specific duties include, but are not limited to:

  • Researching and proposing new, creative and innovative ideas for on-campus marketing and branding of events.
  • Leading initiatives on campus to increase student engagement for University Programs.
  • Serve as hosts for events to engage participation of attendees
  • Proposing and designing giveaways and campaigns.
  • Plan, promote, and execute weekly “PopUP” events such as National Pizza Day, International Women’s Day, and more.
  • Creating, developing, and implementing marketing strategies for University Programs’ events to an array of prospective attendees.
  • Develop and implement guerilla marketing campaigns for University Programs events.
  • Other duties as assigned.

Admin Team

Collaboration Coordinators are members of the University Programs Admin Team who are instrumental in telling the University Programs story and creating positive staff relations.

Specific duties include, but are not limited to:

  • Collaborate with and establish relationships with campus partners.
  • Serve as department support for the Event Resource Request process.
  • Assist with special projects for the Director, University Programs
  • Responsible for staff relations efforts (celebrations, staff recognition, weekly newsletter, etc.)
  • Assist with planning and execution of student staff training
  • Serve as a liaison to help bridge the gap between University Programs staff and other UA stakeholders including students, staff, faculty, and vendors.
  • Other duties as assigned.

Communications Team

Graphic design members of the UP Communications Team use creative and unique strategies to bridge the gap between the University Programs team and students to inform them about all events, resources, and engagement opportunities.

Specific duties include, but are not limited to:

  • Designing marketing graphics using various design software programs – including, but not limited to, Adobe Creative Cloud: Photoshop, Illustrator, and InDesign.
  • Creating, developing, and implementing marketing strategies for University Programs’ events to an array of prospective attendees.
  • Creating, developing, and implementing communications strategies regarding media relations, including, but not limited to, Webmaster, social media, digital signage, press releases, blogs, and campus publications.
  • Researching and proposing new, creative, and innovative ideas for campus marketing and branding of events.
  • Develop and implement guerilla marketing campaigns for University Programs events.
  • Building timelines for marketing events including tangible goals, objectives, strategies, and tactics.
  • Proposing and designing promotional material giveaways and campaigns.
  • Establishing relations with campus media outlets.
  • Completing other duties as assigned.

As a University Programs photographer/videographer, you will be instrumental in promoting and branding of the University Programs office.

Specific duties include, but are not limited to:

  • Create photos, videos, newsletters and motion graphics to promote University Programs events.
  • Take photos and videos of events for archiving purposes.
  • Use visual imagery to promote and recap events.
  • Create social media stories, reels, and other media to share to promote University Programs events.
  • Load photos and videos to various mediums including web, social media, presentations, etc.
  • Operate and maintain equipment.
  • Other duties as assigned.

As a University Programs Social Media Coordinator, you will be vital to sharing the UP brand with UA’s campus.

Specific duties include, but are not limited to:

  • Develop and implement social media strategies to increase online engagement.
  • Establishing relations with campus media outlets.
  • Develop and implement digital marketing campaigns for University Programs events.
  • Building timelines for marketing events including tangible goals, objectives, strategies and tactics.
  • Create social media content for all University Programs social media channels
  • Other duties as assigned.

Programming Team

As a UP Event Programmer, you will network with departments across campus, gain professional skills and experience, and be a part of all UP events throughout the planning and implementation process.

Applicants from all majors are encouraged to apply. Prefer experience with event planning and leadership related to group/teamwork.

Specific duties include, but are not limited to:

  • Assist in development and implementation of campus-wide events and programs that serve the educational, social, cultural, and recreational interests for The University of Alabama.
  • Assist in preparation and management of budgets, invoices, and documents regarding financial management of events.
  • Manage production schedules, coordinate logistics, and implement tasks.
  • Develop a working knowledge of University policies related to risk management, grounds use, purchasing, and contracts.
  • Negotiate and make necessary recommendations for contractual arrangements, within guidelines of the department and in accordance with University and State regulations.
  • Collaborate with the Communications Team to strategically plan and market events to an array of prospective attendees.
  • Develop learning objectives and implement surveys as event assessment.
  • Weekly meetings/professional correspondence.
  • Document events and compile semester reports/binders.
  • Other duties as assigned.
