UA’s Week of Welcome (WOW) is a large series of programs hosted by the university to help first year and transfer students in their transition to academic and student life at the Capstone. The official days of WOW 2017 are Saturday, August 19th through Thursday, August 31st. WOW is only two weeks, but the possibilities are endless!
All Week of Welcome (WOW) events are FREE for University of Alabama students. Just bring yourself and we’ll provide everything else!
No. We are a department on campus whose sole purpose is to create a space for students to connect outside of the classroom. All you have to do is show up!
All new students are encouraged to attend Week of Welcome. Attending WOW events is the best way to meet people and become better acquainted with campus and University resources before classes start. Each day of WOW features key events designed to meet the diverse interests of UA students. Taking full advantage of WOW will help you get the best start at the University of Alabama!
Although there is no penalty for missing Week of Welcome, you are encouraged to attend as many events as you can. WOW activities are designed to meet the needs of new students and help them become more familiar with the campus, community and classmates.
Although many Week of Welcome activities may conflict with recruitment or other events, there are a number of activities offered at various times. You should still be able to attend some events even if you are involved in other activities during the week.
Students living off-campus are welcome to attend any of the Week of Welcome events. Please see the WOW schedule for times, locations and transportation recommendations. We recommend that off-campus students park in their designated parking lots and utilize Crimson Ride to get to the events. Bus route recommendations are included on the schedule.
All new students will be emailed and mailed information about Week of Welcome over the summer. A Week of Welcome information table will be available at Capstone Connections during every Bama Bound orientation session. Students will receive a complete schedule of events when they arrive on campus. In addition, the schedule will be posted around campus and in the Crimson White student newspaper. The Week of Welcome schedule is also available online or on the WOW Facebook Page.
Guidebook is a very quick and easy app to use keeping up with our WOW events. Just go to your iOS/Google Play app store and search Bama Bound. Download the app and search for Week of Welcome 2018. Download our guide and you’re good to go!
Each year the UA Center for Service and Leadership kicks off the new school year with a service project aimed at engaging new students. Ripple Effect is planned in conjunction with Week of Welcome and serves as a signature event to help students get connected to campus. For more information, visit volunteer.ua.edu
